Frequently Asked Questions for Trip Logbook on Android

Your Android phone is most likely already paired with your vehicle’s Bluetooth connection. Trip Logbook can start, end and log trips automatically using your vehicle’s bluetooth connection. Setting Trip Logbook’s logging mode to “Auto Logging (Places with Vehicle Connection)” is recommended.

We've designed Trip Logbook with flexibility in mind.

One option is to select “Auto Logging (Places Only)” as the logging mode. Selecting this option will prompt you to select your default vehicle if you have multiple vehicles in Trip Logbook. If you have only one vehicle, this vehicle will be used. Although not required for the App to function, we recommend creating your most important places. Leaving a place will start a trip. Arriving at a place will stop your trip. The downside with this logging mode is obviously that the App is not vehicle aware.

Another option is to buy a Bluetooth Hands Free Car kit and use “Auto Logging (Places with Vehicle Connection)” logging mode. You plug these into your vehicle's cigarette lighter or auxiliary power outlet. We recommend using vehicle power ports that are powered only when the vehicle ignition is switched ON. This will ensure that trips will be started at exactly the right time.

A more elegant solution is to consider having your car's audio system upgraded to a modern system which supports Bluetooth. There are many good quality aftermarket options available.

Irrespective of having the capability to log your trips automatically, a hands free phone system is a must have. You should never handle your phone while driving.

No. We recommend adding a couple of places you frequently visit. This is just so that you become familiar with the process and associated requirements. You can add, edit, or delete places at any time. You can let Trip Logbook help you create your places as you visit each location.

We recommend using Trip Logbook in “Auto Logging (Places with Vehicle Connection)” mode.

If Trip Logbook detects a vehicle disconnect and detects you are at a new location, the logged trip will include this icon . Tap on the icon to create a place for the new location. Future trips to or from this location will be logged using the place details.

Step 1 - Do the following quick check: Open Trip Logbook on your phone. Wait 20 seconds to see if you get a Fix Logging Dependencies dialog box. Depending on your selected Logging Mode, Trip Logbook will verify that all the logging dependencies are in place everytime you open the App. If not, the missing dependencies will be displayed and you will be guided to correct these. If you do not see any guidance, tap on the main menu and tap "Select Logging Mode". Here you can confirm that your logging mode is set to your preferred setting. If all is ok, proceed to the next step below.

Step 2 - Check if you have Power Saving Mode enabled. On your phone, go to Settings then tap on "Battery and device care" (On some devices "Device Care").
This setting can cause not only Trip Logbook but also other Apps to not behave as expected. The setting name varies between different Android versions. It may also be labelled Power Mode. If activated, and your phone screen is off, and your phone is not charging, this setting will limit background activities including location checking.
On some devices, when this setting is active a battery icon (with recycling arrows) will be visible in the top right status bar next to the WiFi indicator.

Step 3 - For additional troubleshooting steps, tap on the main menu in the App, scroll down towards the bottom and then tap on Logging Dependencies. All the critical dependencies and associated information is listed here. Some settings, if not correct, will provide a Fix button which can simply be tapped to rectify the issue.

Step 4 - If you still cannot find the cause of your trip logging problems, open the App main menu and tap on "App Feedback". This will allow you to contact Trip Logbook Support.
